Permanent Exhibition: Gurs 1940. The deportation and murder of the Jews of Southwest Germany
Audio Tour Tracing Jewish Life in Breisach: German/English/French
The Blue House supplemented a traveling exhibition from the memorial and educational site House of the Wannsee Conference in Berlin with ten panels on local and regional history, permanently installing it in the garden. The exhibition was created together with researchers in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland marking the 80th anniversary of the deportation of Jews from Baden and Saar-Palatinate. Dr. Robert Neisen, Dr. Bernd Hainmüller and Dr. Christiane Walesch-Schneller prepared the texts for the panels on local history.
Hans David Blum (1919, Breisach – 2009, New York) and Elaine Wolff (b. 1946) of New York introduce the Jewish history of Breisach at 15 local sites. What happened in the former Jewish quarter around the Blue House? What was the fate of Jewish businesses in the city center? The Blue House team created the texts, which were read aloud by actors.
For this project, the Blue House received a federal grant under the program marking “1,700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany.” The tour is accessible via smartphone; historic and current photos provide orientation.
