Remembering Two Women from the Jewish Community of Breisach

High school students from Breisach’s Hugo-Höfler Realschule prepared a program for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, marking the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. The students wanted to share what they had learned with their classmates and with the public. Their school invited the Freiburg-based musical theater Tabun to perform the play, “The Brave Children of La Hille.”

On the European Day of Jewish Culture, an exhibition commemorated “Two honorable women of Breisach’s Jewish community”: Babette Reiss, wife of the rabbi (1813 – 1890) and Ida Frank (1889 – 1988), the first woman to serve in Breisach’s city council.
