The Blue House Celebrates 20 Years

On June 20, 2003, 20 years ago, the Blue House was inaugurated after extensive renovations in the presence of District President von Ungern-Sternberg in the presence of many people. At that time, more than forty Holocaust survivors came with their descendants, all of whom had their roots in Breisach.

We look back on almost 25 years since the founding of the association and 20 years of dedicated, persistent and persevering work. Many people and institutions helped with their hands, their minds and also with their generosity. We are very grateful.

On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the inauguration of the Blue House, we, the board of directors of the association and the Blue House team, are again expecting Jewish guests who have roots in Breisach.

The week of encounters from June 27 to July 2, 2023 with a big program aims to facilitate new relationships between the guests and the locals – especially with schoolchildren – and to bring back many memories of the people of the Jewish community of Breisach (1640 – 1940) and the various stages in the development of the former Jewish community center into the Blue House.

The Hugo-Höfler-Realschule, the Martin-Schongauer-Gymnasium and the Julius-Leber-School in Breisach as well as the Lessing-Realschule Freiburg take part in the eyewitness encounters.
