Prehistory and Founding of the Association

After several years of contentious discussions about the renaming of Rheintorstaße, so dubbed by the Nazis, the Breisach town council reached conclusions about “How the Jewish history of Breisach could be made visible.” The town invited Holocaust survivors to the dedication of the newly remodeled site of the historic synagogue. Two of the visitors – including Ralph Eisemann, who grew up in the Blue House as a son of the cantor – gave public speeches. Hans David Blum’s book “Juden in Breisach” (Jews in Breisach) was received with great interest.
